How can you not like cute little bunnies?

Everyone always seems to eventually ask the question: “what’s with the bunny?”

It all started back during some of Matthew’s earlier days doing development when he met a fellow Canadian named Dennis. Over the course of a stressful project, they developed numerous practical jokes. However one joke that stuck involved fixing any problem by a warm fluffy blanket with bunnies on it, a nice cup of coffee, and sleep. This random joke soon became an emoticon on MSN/IRC as “.bunny”. It was a few years later, when Matthew decided it was time to start a company, that he thought back to those good times and what they did in shaping his future, and as such named the company, .bunny. Of course that didn’t quite work out well for the whole legal name of the company, or the domain, hence where dotBunny spawned.

We haven’t quite figured out what it means to be a corporation, but ultimately I think that’s by choice. We like to have fun, and it seems that if we were to act like a corporation we wouldn’t nearly have as much fun as we do now. As a company, we definitely have our moments of working to the point of exhaustion, yet we keep coming back for more; not because we have too, but because we want too. As for the inquisitive question of our offices culture, it’s best described as such:

  • We don’t offer catered meals like Google, but we do support people taking off for a couple hours to go sample some great sushi.
  • We don’t have fancy offices like EA does in Vancouver, but we do encourage everyone to make your own office however you like.
  • We don’t offer you a 401k plan, but we do pay pretty damn good.

Someday we hope to open a centralized office space, where people can come to work and create some great things, however right now, we don’t think the world is ready for that. Not yet.
